Teaching School Hubs and Maths Hubs Partnership

The London North East Maths Hub works together with the London District East Teaching School Hub in Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Newham, and the East London Teaching School Hub in Hackney.

Teaching School Hubs and Maths Hubs each form part of the national network of high-quality professional development available to teachers and leaders in England. The Teaching Schools Council and the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics are committed to supporting each other in successful collaboration and Teaching School Hubs and Maths Hubs work together when supporting schools in their area.

Teaching School Hubs and Maths Hubs are establishing a productive working relationship. Key to this is a deep understanding of the purpose, remit and offer of both hubs.

Teaching School Hubs are school-led centres of excellence for teacher and leader training and development, supporting teachers at all stages of their careers. Each Hub is led by a lead school, designated by the Department for Education to offer support to schools within a defined area. The national network of 87 hubs draws on their expertise and local knowledge.

The Maths Hubs Programme, coordinated by the National Centre of Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), brings together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network of 40 hubs, each locally led by an outstanding school or college, to develop and spread excellent practice, for the benefit of all pupils and students.

Each Maths Hub is made up of a partnership of schools, colleges and other organisations working together to provide support for maths teaching in a particular region of England.

It is endeavoured that leaders from each hub work together when key decisions are made about our local CPD offer. The hubs work together to establish a shared analysis mutual understanding of the parameters of each programme, their reach and what counts as participation from schools.

Teaching School Hubs have a key role to play not only in signposting the Maths Hub offer but also in ensuring that their own wider CPD offer is informed by and coherent with the Maths Hub provision. The same is true of Maths Hubs, which should ensure that their own provision is informed by the work of Teaching School Hubs.
